Organisers of the British and Irish bid for Euro 2028 are set to name Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium but not their hometown rival’ Old Trafford, according to reports.
A list of 14 stadiums will be cut down to 10 as England prepare to submit their bid to UEFA, but there is no room for the Red Devils among that shortlist.
The main argument for chosing Etihad over Old Trafford is the modern outlook of the City’s home ground, despite Old Trafford holding a greater capacity at 74, 310 to City’s 53, 400.
Last month, it was reported that United are considering a raft of options for upgrading their stadium, including full-scale renovation and even demolition.
It is still unknown whether the club will go ahead with the changes since it currently finds itself in a middle of a huge bidding for ownership. It is in the hand of the potential new owners to decide, the club stated.
