The French player injured himself on Saturday in the derby against Valencia

Thomas Lemar has sustained an achilles tendon rupture and he will need surgery that will keep him out for long time, as some reports are saying around 6 months.

The French midfielder suffered the injury against Valencia on Saturday and on Sunday Atletico Madrid confirmed the news in an official statement.

Lemar was carried out on a stretcher, in tears, just before the break. The club immediately communicated about a potential “serious injury to the Achilles tendon” , while awaiting additional examinations.

In a press release published this Sunday on the Atlético website, they stated: “Following the examinations carried out on the French player, the medical report from the club’s medical service indicates that he suffers from a rupture of the right Achilles tendon and will require surgery. Best wishes to Thom for a healthy recovery!”
