Indonesian court has sentenced to jailed two of those responsible for the tragic match last October in which 135 people lost their lives. Both were found guilty of negligence charges.
During the Arema FC – Persebaya Surabaya clash, there was tension in the stands, which spread over onto the field, and the police intervened with tear gas. Panic ensued and thousands tried to escape from the stadium, but some of them failed and died of suffocation in the chaos.

One of the organizers, Abdul Haris, was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for negligence, although the prosecution requested a six-year sentence. Security guard Suko Sutrisno received one year in prison. Apart from that, three police officers have been charged with violence and will learn their sentences at a later stage.
