Both North American countries were defeated in the ½ finals at the FIBA World Cup, but even if the match would not be for the trophy, the teams are motivated to prove that they are better than their neighbor at basketball.
“Canada haven’t won a medal since the 1930s, so they’re going to go hard on us,” Tyrese Haliburton shared today. “I think both countries expect to play against each other in the coming years. So, it seems like this is just the beginning.”
The Canadian national men’s basketball team have never taken home a World Cup medal, and their single Olympic medal came back in 1936 in Berlin, where they finished 2nd. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will try to help his country triumph with its 1st medal from a World Cup tomorrow against the USA.
