UEFA will make a decision on a possible ban of Barcelona from the Champions League for the next campaign by mid-July, Spanish newspaper Marca reports this morning. The European football headquarters are continuing their investigation into the highly publicized scandal surrounding the “Negreira” case, but the final decision will be made by the Ethics and Discipline Commission.
The revelations surrounding the scandal show that between 2001 and 2018, the Catalans paid a total of 7.3 million euros to Jose Maraa Enriquez Negreira for various services that were defined by the Catalans’ management as “consultations”. At the time, however, Negreira was the vice-president of the Refereeing Commission in Spain, which was at least a conflict of interest, as he could have directly influenced the referees’ decisions.

A few weeks ago it became clear that two of UEFA’s inspectors in the case came to the conclusion that Barcelona deserved to be punished by being kicked out of the Champions League, but the European football powerhouse continues to investigate the situation with all the teams that qualified for the tournaments next campaign. This is one of the reasons for the decisions expected soon, since in the event of a team being banned, the replacement must be informed in time so that they can prepare for participation, and sometimes this can be done already from the preliminary circles.
In a similar situation is the Italian side Juventus, who were informed yesterday that it is very likely that they will receive a punishment very soon for the financial irregularities that led to a punishment with points taken away from the local headquarters.
