UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin admitted he will not seek re-election in 3 years.
It happened after the organization voted to change its rules, which would have allowed the current president to run again and be president of UEFA until 2031.
The FA was the only football association to oppose the rule amendment at the congress in Paris.
The English Football governing body claimed that presidents must serve a “maximum” of 3 terms of 4 years.
That was the rule until now, but the new rule now allows 4 terms, which means that Ceferin would be allowed to run again to remain president beyond his current 3rd term.
The Slovenian replaced Platini when the French stepped down in 2016 after being banned by FIFA for ethical reasons.
Ceferin shared with the media that he decided 6 months ago that he doesn’t want to seek re-election in 3 years.
“Since I see all the men here, you should think about gender equality as sports journalists as well.”
