Max Verstappen finally revealed that his controversial collision with George Russell at the Spanish GP “was not right” and “shouldn’t have happened,” as he wrote on social media this morning.
The 4-time world champ received a 10-second penalty for the incident for causing the collision after he appeared to let his opponent overtake on the entry of Turn 5, only to accelerate and drive into the side of George.
The Dutch didn’t show remorse after the end of the Spanish Grand Prix as he refused to answer with details about the crash.
However, one day after the race, Verstappen chose to talk about the incident with Russell and to take the blame for it.
“With my team, Red Bull, we did great at the Spanish Grand Prix until the safety car,” shared Max. “Our tyre choice to the end and some moves after the safety car restart made me nervous, and that led to an accident that was not right and shouldn’t have happened.”
Verstappen added that his emotions ran high during that time and that now his focus is only on the upcoming race in Montreal.
