The Russian is now only chasing the great Wayne Gretzky in the all-time top scorer list

Washington defeated New Jersey 6-4 on the road in the only game of the regular season of the NHL last night.

Dylan Strom scored two for the win in the 16th and 41st minutes of the match, and Anthony Manta, Sonny Milano, Connor McMichael and Alexander Ovechkin added one point each.

Yevgeny Kuznetsov had two assists and Hunter Shepard made 18 saves in his NHL debut. Washington, which had scored a total of six goals in their previous five games, squandered a 3-0 lead but rallied to win on late goals by McMichael and Ovechkin.

Tyler Toffoli scored twice for New Jersey and Timo Meier and Nico Hischier once each.

Ovechkin scored his second goal of the current NHL season. The Russian striker scored in his second straight game and now has 824 goals, which puts him second on the league’s all-time top scorers list. Canadian Wayne Gretzky leads the list with 894 goals.
