Wout Weghorst made an immediate impact as a substitute, scoring less than two minutes after entering the match to secure a crucial 2-1 victory for the Netherlands against Poland in their opening game of Group D at Euro 2024.

Poland unexpectedly took the lead in the 16th minute when Adam Buksa headed the ball into the net. The Netherlands responded quickly, equalizing 15 minutes later when Cody Gakpo’s shot deflected past Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

The match was competitive, with Poland posing significant challenges, especially in the second half. Despite creating several opportunities, Poland struggled to capitalize in the absence of their star striker Robert Lewandowski, who was out due to injury.
