Wimbledon has announced a record prize money pool of $63.94 million for this year’s tournament. This represents an 11.9% increase from last year, amounting to £5.3 million more, and is double the amount offered in 2014.
For the 2024 tournament, the men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive £2.7 million, up from £2.35 million in the previous year. First-round losers will also see an increase in their earnings, receiving £60,000, a rise of £5,000 from 2023. The losing finalists will be awarded £1.4 million each.
The tournament is scheduled to run from July 1-14, with Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and Czech Marketa Vondrousova as the defending champions.
Wimbledon reported a turnover of $486.8 million last year and an operating profit of $69 million.
AELTC chair Debbie Jevans emphasized the importance of finding a balance between supporting lower-ranked players who rely on prize money for their expenses and adequately rewarding the top players. She also highlighted the significant demand for tickets and corporate hospitality, which reflects the increasing interest in attending the tournament.
