The decision comes 3 months after Winnipeg shared a buyout for ex-captain Blake Wheeler.
Blake, who inked with NY Rangers during the free agency, was captain from 2016 to 2022 before being stripped of captaincy before this last campaign when the franchise did not have a captain. Adam becomes the 3rd player to captain the Jets since the franchise relocated to its current location, after Wheeler and Andrew Ladd.
“When I heard that I would be the new captain, I was very happy, almost a little speechless. It’s something every kid grows up dreams of and seems almost impossible,” Adam shared.
Lowry added that he is proud of being captain of a Canadian NHL franchise and can’t wait to lead his teammates during the new campaign. He will begin his 10th year with the team, having joined the Jets as a 3rd-round selection in the 2011 NHL Draft.
