The prize money for some of the tournaments will go up
The Women Tennis Association has pledged for higher paychecks for his athletes in order to level the playing field with men.
The Florida-based Association announced on Tuesday that it is revising its calendar and rules in order for some of its players to get to up to what is called a “pathway to equal prize money”.
“Women’s professional sports don’t receive the same level of compensation for those rights as men’s professional sports do, which is why you see lower prize money paid or contracts (given) across all women’s sports versus those of men. That’s just an economic reality,” WTA Chairman and CEO Steve Simon said.
The changes need to be approved by the WTA Board of Directors in August.
