Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger inducted into PL Hall of Fame

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger became the first ever managers to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The two mammoth-like figures in terms of success in modern football led their clubs for over two decades and developed one of the most fiercest rivalries in English football – that between Manchester United and Arsenal in the late 90’s and early 00’s.

Ferguson is without a competition the most decorated manager in the Premier League history, having lifted the trophy a groundbreaking 13 times, including three times in a row on two separate occasions (1998-99,1999-00,2000-01 and 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09).

After arriving at Old Trafford in 1986 in a club that looked helpless under the tenure of Ron Atkinson, Ferguson achieved the unthinkable and transformed the team into the most successful club in English football, surpassing the unimaginable 18 titles of Liverpool at the time.

He had been selected manager of the season a record 11 times and has received the Manager of the Month award 27 times.

‘I’m truly delighted to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. It’s an honour when you receive recognition like this.’ Ferguson said

‘However, it’s not just about me as a person. It’s about the job at Manchester United and the bond we had over many years, so I’m also proud for the club, the staff and my players.’

Wenger, on the other hand, arrived much later in 1996 and his impact, unlike Ferguson’s, was immediate as Arsenal were able to win the title in his first full season in charge back in 1997-98.

He revolutionized modern football by applying philosophy which emphasized more on attacking and creativity. His career-high came in 2003-04 season when Arsenal stayed unbeaten throughout the whole campaign and subsequently clinched the title.

‘I am very grateful to have been selected for the Premier League Hall of Fame. We always wanted to give something special to the fans and when you have players capable of remarkable things, the most important thing for me is the obligation of perfection.’ Wenger said

‘I’d like to be known as someone who loved Arsenal, who respected the values of the club and left it in a position where it can grow and become even bigger.
