Bayer triumphed in the German Cup after a 1-0 victory.

Bayer Leverkusen defeated 2nd tier side Kaiserslautern 1-0 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin to do a Deutsch double. Xabi Alonso’s players held the victory with 1 fewer player on the pitch since the end of the 1st half to win the trophy.

Granit Xhaka scored the only goal in the match in the 16th minute as the ex-Arsenal player won his 2nd trophy in a matter of several weeks after leaving the Gunners in the past summer. Odilon Kossounou received his 2nd yellow card in the 44th minute and left Leverkusen with 10 men on the pitch but despite that, Bayer held the 1-goal lead until the end and triumphed with the DFB Pokal after winning the Bundesliga earlier this month.

Leverkusen only defeat in the current campaign happened in the Europa League final against Atalanta a few days ago as Xabi Alonso’s team had the chance to win a treble but felt only 1 game short of doing it.
