The former forward said his goodbyes to home fans in Sweden as he retired at the end of 2022/23 season

After Sweden’s 0-3 home defeat to Serbia, fans of the “Tre Kronor” remained in the stands at the Friends Arena to honor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who retired from football at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The legendary striker addressed the 47,000 spectators, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support throughout his illustrious career. Ibrahimovic, 42, holds the record as the top scorer in the history of the Swedish national team, with 62 goals in 122 matches.

“To wear the jersey of the Swedish national team as a footballer is the best thing in life. Wear it with pride and love. I had the honor of being the team’s captain. From the first day, I received love and support, energy, great memories that I will never forget. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart,” began Ibrahimovic.

He also delivered an inspiring message to the younger generation: “Think big. If you don’t have the strength to dream big, lean on my journey and draw strength from it. I am living proof that nothing is impossible, no matter where you come from.”

Reflecting on his career, he added, “Twenty-five years ago, I said I would be the greatest of all time. Many people laughed at me. Twenty-five years later, I can stand here and say that I am the greatest of all time. I hope you have enjoyed my adventure.”
