Carlos Alcaraz achieved a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 victory over Facundo Bagnis to progress to Miami Open third round on Friday night.
With this result Alcaraz keeps his No.1 spot over exiled Novak Djokovic, who does not participate in the tournament due to COVID-19 restrictions in the USA.
“To start a new tournament is never easy, different conditions. I have to be ready to get used to these new conditions, but I was really focused on the match from the beginning, and I’m happy with the way that I played,” said Alcaraz after the game.
The Spaniard reclaimed the No. position last week after ending Daniil Medvedev 19-game winning streak to clinch the Indian Wells title in California. The 19-year old initially climbed to No.1 with his glorious US Open run, which saw him claim his maiden Grand Slam trophy against Casper Ruud in the final.
