Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz overcame a challenging start against unseeded Australian Aleksandar Vukic to secure a 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-2 victory and advance to the third round on Wednesday. This victory extended Alcaraz’s winning streak at Wimbledon to nine matches.
Alcaraz, seeded third, initially struggled against Vukic, who is ranked 69th in the world. After breaking for a 4-2 lead, Alcaraz was broken back three games later and found himself trailing 5-6 in the first set. He managed to recover and force a tiebreak, where he built a 5-1 lead before Vukic closed the gap to 5-4.
Alcaraz raised his game again to clinch the set, much to the relief of his Spanish supporters on Court One.
