Fernando Alonso expressed his enthuisiasm about Aston Martin’s improved performance after a solid P5 in Belgium and declared the team is back in the mix with the top teams.
The green cars have suffered a significant dip in form in the last couple of races, having been a regular podium contender in the opening stages of the 2023 season.
But on Spa-Francorchamps Alonso battled his way from P9 on the grid to finish fifth, trailing only the Red Bulls, the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.
“I think we are happier, we are feeling fast again,” Alonso said.
“The strategy was perfect, the start was good, pit stops good as well, and the pace of the car back in the mix with the top teams.”
“I think we can go into the summer break a little bit more optimistic, but with the feet on the ground, knowing that we still lost a little bit of competitiveness since the beginning of the year, so more to come from Aston Martin hopefully after the summer.”
