After picking up two podium finishes in a row Fernando Alonso has expressed his delight for his new team Aston Martin.
It was Alonso’s 100th podium finish, a feat achieved by only six other drivers and he is fully focused on continuing this run.
“At the moment, we are extremely happy with the performance of the car obviously. We were better than expected, especially in Jeddah – I think it was a Nice surprise, so we arrive here with a good level of confidence,” he said.
“But… after a few events, from now on, I think the cars will change a lot in a few areas, and a few developments, so let’s see if we can keep this pace.”
Asked if Aston Martin could be considered a 100% podium-finishing car Alonso was a bit cautious with the answer, as he pointed out there is inevitably going to be a change in performance once racing resumes in Europe in late April and mid-May.
“Not yet. I think we have to wait and see. Also I think very soon, from Baku or Imola, we will see the teams changing a few parts on the cars and maybe that changes also how competitive you feel, so let’s wait and see.” the 41-year old replied.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Lance Stroll, gave updates on his injuries. The Canadian admitted that he hasn’t recovered fully yet, but feels much better.
He also emphasized on the change of mood in the Aston Martin team after a great run of results.
