In a thrilling Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first-round series, the New York Knicks rallied to secure a 111-104 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers after squandering a 14-point third-quarter lead.
Miles McBride played the hero, draining the tiebreaking basket with 8:25 remaining in the game. McBride finished with 21 points off the bench, including 13 crucial points in the second quarter. Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart led the Knicks with 22 points each, with Hart also contributing 13 rebounds.
The 76ers put up a strong fight, with Tyrese Maxey leading the charge with 33 points and Joel Embiid adding 29 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Lowry chipped in 18 points, and Kelly Oubre Jr. contributed 10 points.
Philadelphia got off to a fast start, opening the game with an 18-7 run and extending their lead to as many as 13 points in the first quarter. However, the Knicks fought back and tied the score at 36-36 in the second quarter.
New York took control of the game in the second quarter, gradually building a lead before heading into halftime with a 58-46 advantage. They opened up a trio of 14-point leads in the third quarter but saw their lead evaporate as the 76ers mounted a 27-7 run.
Despite the 76ers taking an 82-79 lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Knicks fought back once again. McBride’s tiebreaking layup and clutch plays from Hart and OG Anunoby helped New York pull away in the final minutes, securing the victory.
With Game 2 scheduled for Monday night, both teams will look to make adjustments as they continue their battle in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
