Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his disappointment with the referee in the goalless draw against Southampton.
The Dutchman disagreed with the red card for Casemiro following VAR’s intervention, and subsequently the Red Devils’ claims for a penalty for Gavin Bazunu’s foul on Marcus Rashford not to be respected.
“Should we have had a penalty? Definitely. There is no doubt about it. I don’t know why the VAR didn’t intervene when it did before. Casemiro had over 500 appearances in European football and had never received a red card in them. Now there are already two such in the Premier League. His absence will not be a problem. We’ll deal with that, but the referees certainly affected this game. The problem is the inconsistency. Congratulations to the players who showed character playing for such a long time with 10 men,” Ten Hag said.
