The Indianapolis Colts have announced that Anthony Richardson has undergone a shoulder injury, which will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.
Team owner Jim Irsay shared the news via social media post and said that the lengthy procedure took place in Los Angeles and the doctors have successfully found what they were looking for. The timetable of Richardson’s recovery is still unknown.
“No new surprises were found during surgery — they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone for the support,” Irsay wrote.
Richardson is no stranger to injury complications as he has finished only one game for the Colts so far. A bruised knee and sore ankle forced him to sit out the final minute of Indy’s season opener, and he was knocked out of a Week 2 win at Houston when he entered the concussion protocol. He didn’t play in Week 3 and then went to the ground awkwardly in Week 6, resulting in a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder.
Gardner Minshaw has stepped in Richardson’s absence and is expected to continue doing so.
