The Gunners had to hold on to their lead in the final minutes

Arsenal won 2-1 against Nottingham Forest in their opening game of the new Premier League season. The London side scored both goals before the half-time break and the away team brought back the tension for the last 10 minutes.

Arsenal needed 26 minutes to open the scoring when Gabriel Martinelli showed great dribbling and found Nketiah who found himself in space to shoot and scored for 1-0.

Six minutes later Gunners’ lead was doubled. Bukayo Saka controlled a pass with a killer first touch on the edge of the box and curled the ball inside the left post for 2-0.

Quarter of an hour before the full time Declan Rice had a chance to finish things off with a third goal, but his shot met the right post, giving Nottingham a lifeline. Forest started to believe in the comeback six minutes later when Anthony Elanga produced a great counter attack getting into the penalty area and finding Taiwo Awoniyi, who didn’t hesitate to send the ball past Ramsdale for 2-1.

This goal made the final 10+ minutes very nervous for the home side as Nottingham went ‘all in’, including all offensive players from the bench. The Gunners managed to hold on to their lead and started their new Premier League campaign the right way.
