Manchester City’s comfortable 3-1 win over Leicester will be the last outing for Pep Guardiola’s men in the Premier League, until the crunch title showdown with Arsenal on April 26.
Up until then the Gunners will have the opportunity to go 9 points clear if they defeat West Ham on Sunday and Southampton on April 21 as City are due to miss the next round because of the 1/2 finals of the FA Cup.
However, as settling as that seems, Mikel Arteta’s men will be under severe pressure as a potential loss at Etihad on April 26 would mean City will technically leapfrog the Gunners atop of the Premier League. And it is an undeniable truth – if City were to be victorious in their upcoming 8 League games the titles will be theirs, barring a miracle that may see Arsenal overturn a 7-goal deficit in goal difference.
Speaking on the matter, Guardiola said:
“Like I said in the previous press conference, it is to win win win,”
“They [Arsenal] have had an incredible run so far this season, I don’t think they will drop many points and we have to be in there.
“It is important for us to arrive at the match by winning today and it is a final against them in the next Premier League game.”
“It is a final to play more finals,” Guardiola added. “If we lose this game it will be almost over.”
