Mikel Arteta backed his Arsenal squad after their Champions League exit from Bayern Munich, emphasizing the need for support and encouragement in the face of disappointment.
Following Joshua Kimmich’s decisive header in Germany, which secured Bayern’s 1-0 victory on the night and a 3-2 aggregate win in the quarter-final, Arsenal faced their second consecutive defeat. Their Premier League title aspirations took a hit with a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa the previous Sunday.
“I wish I had the right words to say to the players to make them feel better. What I am going to do – and all the coaching staff too – is to be close to the players,” Arteta expressed.
“We haven’t played this competition for seven years and we haven’t been in this stage for 14 years,” he noted. “There’s a reason for it.”
Despite the disappointment, Arteta emphasized the importance of focusing on the upcoming challenges in the Premier League, with Arsenal still in contention for the title. He emphasized the need for unity and determination as they prepare for their next match against Wolves.
“What I need to do is stand right next to them and give them support and our love, and we have to pick it up because on Saturday we have a big, big game,” Arteta affirmed. “We are still playing for the Premier League. The Premier League is there, and we really want it. We have to show now that we are capable of turning this around.”
