The tournament will be the first with 48 participants and 104 games overall

Bank of America has announced its partnership with FIFA as a global sponsor for the 2026 World Cup, marking the financial giant’s entry into one of the most-watched sporting events in the world. This collaboration makes Bank of America the first global sponsor in the banking category for FIFA, highlighting the strategic importance of sports sponsorship in broadening brand recognition.

The 2026 World Cup, which will feature an expanded format of 104 matches with 48 participating teams, will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Of the 16 host cities, 11 will be in the U.S.

Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan emphasized the global connection football brings, stating that the partnership will align with the bank’s global and local market strategies, allowing it to engage with a worldwide audience.

This move aligns Bank of America with other major corporations like Visa, which has been a FIFA partner since 2007, following a dispute between FIFA and Mastercard.
