New York avoided a series sweep with the overtime victory.

Mathew Barzal notched his 2nd goal of the match on a deflection 1:24 into the 2nd OT, and the NY Islanders defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in Game 4 at UBS Arena in Elmont, NY to avoid a sweep in their 1st-round postseason matchup.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau also notched, and Semyon Varlamov made 42 saves – including 18 in the OT – to secure another game in the series for his team.

Seth Jarvis and Stefan Noesen notched and Frederik Andersen stopped 33 shots for the Hurricanes, which failed to advance today to the 2nd round for a 5th time in 6 seasons.

Game 5 is Tuesday back in Carolina as the Hurricanes can wrap up the match-up at their venue.

New York forward Matt Martin didn’t play because of a lower-body problem. Martin missed training on Wednesday but was on the ice the next day for Game 3 after being a match-time decision. Ruslan Iskhakov replaced him tonight.
