Jude Bellingham has claimed England used the “pile on” they have faced from critics at the European Championship in Germany as a way to motivate them, adding he felt great throwing it back “to some people” after their dramatic victory against Slovakia in the 1/8 finals.
The Three Lions have drawn criticism for their awful performances at the Euro 2024, and the backlash seemed set to at its peak when they found themselves on the brink of elimination vs. world number 45 Slovakia in the 1st elimination phase of the tournament today.
But in the 95th minute, Jude scored a phenomenal overhead kick to force an OT, and Harry Kane’s header in the extra time secured the comeback for the Three Lions and sealed their progression into the ¼ finals.
“The adrenaline gets you,” Jude shared with the media after the victory.
Bellingham added that his goal was a message to the critics and that he is feeling fantastic despite the tough win.
'You do have to take it personally… sometimes it feels like there is a bit of a pile-on. In moments like that, it's nice to throw it back to some people'
