Los Blancos finished 1-1 against Athletic Bilbao in their last game of the season

Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao finished 1-1 in a match of the last 38th round of La Liga. Real Madrid ends the season in 2nd place with 78 points, while Athletic Bilbao remains out of the European tournaments places after finishing the campaign in 8th position with 51 points.

The clash was the official farewell for Real captain and 2023 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema. After 14 years with the white kit, the Frenchman played his last game for the club.

The match started well for the away side and in the 10th minute Athletic Bilbao were awarded a penalty due to a handball by Toni Kroos in his own penalty area. Mikel Vesga took the penalty kick but Thibaut Courtois saved it.

In the 49th minute, Oihan Sunset received the ball in the penalty area and shot at the Real Madrid goal, but Courtois deflected. Sunset was quick to get to the ball fast enough and scored on his second attempt to put the Basques ahead.

Yuri Berchiche made a dangerous tackle in his own penalty area, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Karim Benzema took the penalty and scored in the 72nd minute, and thus said goodbye to the Santiago Bernabeu fans with a goal.
