Marcelo will lead the national team at least through 2026.

Uruguay announced that Marcelo Bielsa would become their new manager.

Jorge Casales, part of the Uruguayan football association directors, shared that the ex-Leeds head coach will sign a deal that will finish after the 2026 World Cup.

“The only thing missing is the sign,” Jorge announced of the contract with the veteran head coach as it is expected to happen in the next few days in Montevideo.

Marcelo’s 1st games as the manager of the team will be in June when Uruguay will face Nicaragua and Cuba in friendly matches. The qualifications for the World Cup in North America will start in September.

“We are hiring someone who we know will lead us to a legacy that goes beyond the duration of the single game,” Casales claimed.
