Bournemouth achieved a historic first win over Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at Vitality Stadium, courtesy of goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson. Riding a wave of good form after recent strong performances against Aston Villa and Arsenal, the Cherries came out with intent, putting City on the back foot from the outset.

In the opening minutes, City keeper Ederson was immediately called into action, making a double save to deny Semenyo and Justin Kluivert. Bournemouth’s persistence paid off in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez delivered a cut-back from the byline, which Semenyo slotted home, giving Bournemouth an early lead. City, despite dominating possession, struggled to generate any meaningful threat in a frustrating first half.
The hosts continued their momentum in the second half, with Ederson narrowly denying Evanilson’s initial attempt just after the restart. Minutes later, Evanilson capitalized on another opportunity, meeting Kerkez’s low cross to double Bournemouth’s lead with a clinical finish into the bottom corner. Bournemouth nearly added a third when Marcus Tavernier’s shot hit the post, but Adam Smith missed an open chance on the rebound.
City only managed their first shot on target in the 80th minute, as Erling Haaland’s effort lacked power. Shortly afterward, Josko Gvardiol’s header found the net to pull City within one. However, Bournemouth held firm, preventing City from finding an equalizer and sealing a remarkable victory.
This defeat sees City slip to second in the league as Liverpool overtook them with a comeback win over Brighton. Bournemouth’s win propels them to eighth, marking a significant rise in the standings.
