Argentina’s world champion Alejandro “Papu” Gomez has been banned from football for two years after getting a positive doping test, reports Spanish publication Relevo.
The former Sevilla player, who joined Monza on a free transfer in September, tested positive for a banned substance in a test taken in November 2022 while playing for the Spanish side.

Sevilla and Alejandro Gomes learned the news a few months ago after being notified by UEFA, but his sanction was imposed this week. It is yet to be seen if this could affect Argentina’s triumph, which came a month later and Gomez was part of the squad and played against Saudi Arabia in the group stage and against Australia in the Round of 16.
