Ivan Toney bounced back from missing out on the England World Cup squad by scoring twice as Brentford stunned Premier League champions Manchester City to win 2-1 at the Etihad on Saturday.

A first home defeat since February leaves City two points behind Arsenal, who travel to Wolves later, at the top of the table. Should the Gunners win, they will enter the World Cup break with a five-point gap at the top.
Brentford made a bright start and deservedly went ahead 16 minutes when Toney nodded home Ben Mee’s flick-on for his 17th league goal of 2022.
The Citizens improved as the half wore on and levelled seconds before the interval when Phil Foden lashed a brilliant shot beyond David Raya Kevin De Bruyne’s corner.
City racked up goal-scoring chances in the second half, but Toney fired home to round off a stoppage-time counter-attack.
