After imposing ban on Russian and Belarusian players at last year’s Wimbledon the British tennis governing body was severely fined by the WTA and ATP of approximately $1m.
This year they will be hoping the fine is reduce since the announcement that Russian and Belarusian players will be allowed back to compete.
The Lawn Tennis Association has already seen its $750,000 (£604,000) sanction from the WTA cut in half because of that. The UK governing body now hopes that it can follow a similar with its negotiations with ATP.
‘We have made representations to them in respect of wanting them to reconsider the outcome of the decision, in light of the solution we have found for 2023. We are awaiting any response to that,’ the LTA Chief Executive Scott Lloyd said.
‘It does mean there’s activity elsewhere that we’ve had to slightly pull back from.
‘In some ways, I’d like to think the level of respect between the organisations has actually been enhanced over this period, because we’ve had a lot more interaction on some difficult topics and worked our way through them together.’
Last year’s ban saw some big names like Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev miss out on a chance of Wimbledon glory.
