The Cleveland Browns are appointing the ex-Ravens OC Todd Monken to be their next boss.
Todd, who will turn 60 in a few days, replaces Kevin Stefanski, who was dismissed earlier this month after 6 years with the organization. Cleveland ended with a 5-12 record in the past campaign and has an 8-26 record since last reaching the postseason in the 2023 campaign.
The Browns’ appointment of Monken as its head coach leaves the Giants and their head coach, John Harbaugh, in search of a new OC. The expectations were that Todd would follow Harbaugh to the Big Apple if he were not offered a head coaching position.
Monken, who worked in the last 3 years with Ravens and was not retained on new Baltimore boss Jesse Minter’s staff, will become the Browns’ 11th full-time boss since returning to the league in 1999, which trails only the Raiders (13) during that period. Todd previously worked as OC of Cleveland in the 2019 campaign on Freddie Kitchens’ staff.
Todd was 1 of the 5 candidates with whom Cleveland held in-person interviews and now will become a head coach in the National Football League for the 1st time in his career.
After the Browns informed DC Jim Schwartz this morning they were passing him over to hire Todd Monken as head coach, Schwartz was visibly upset, said goodbyes in the building and told other coaches he’s not coming back, sources tell The Insiders.
