Bruno Fernandes struck a stoppage-time penalty to hand Manchester United a dramatic victory over Burnley at Old Trafford, as the Red Devils narrowly avoided more dropped points in the Premier League.
In the 20th minute, the referee blew the whistle for United a penalty after Mason Mount fell in the penalty area, but after a VAR review, he changed his mind. The home team’s pressure paid off. In the 27th minute, after a corner, Casemiro headed the ball in, the ball hit the crossbar and deflected into Cullen before crossing the goal line. Dubravka cleared it, but it was too late to prevent a goal.

In the second half, however, the Red Devils looked far more hesitant in defense, and the visitors played freely and equalized in the 55th minute. Foster took advantage of Bruun Larsen’s cross and sent the ball into the net. Just a minute later, United took the lead again through Mbemo, who completed an excellent combination and a precise pass from Dalot.
The Red Devils could have decided everything minutes after, but Bruno Fernandes missed one-on-one against the goalkeeper after a good pass from Mbemo. Burnley took advantage of it in the 67th minute and scored another equalizer. After a long throw, the ball reached Ugochukwu, who took a shot, Byander did not blocked the shot well and allowed Anthony to score for 2:2.
Anthony, however, turned from saviour to culprit deep into stoppage time. The winger tugged back Amad as the Ivorian surged towards the box, with the foul starting outside the area but continuing inside. Referee Sam Barrott initially waved play on, but VAR Stuart Attwell advised a review.

After a four-minute delay, Barrott overturned his decision and pointed to the spot. Fernandes, who had missed from 12 yards against Fulham just six days earlier, stepped up under immense pressure. The United captain showed no sign of nerves, sending his effort low into the corner to secure the win.
