Future Calgary Flames addition Topi Ronny of Finland is being investigated in his homeland for a rape that happened two years ago, the AP reported.
His Finnish team, Tapara Tampere, said Ronny was temporarily suspended from the team after receiving a summons from the court. The 19-year-old was a minor when it happened.
“The last two years have been very difficult because I was waiting to see what would happen. I believe that everything will be clarified during the trial,” he said.
Ronny was selected in the second round of the 2022 NHL draft by Calgary, and he is now in his third season with Tampere. He has made five appearances for Finland’s national team at the 2023 World Youth Championship.
