The Calgary Flames added the necessary pieces to their coaching staff under manager Ryan Huska, as the franchise shared that they inked assistants Dan Lambert and Marc Savard today.
Dan (53) started as a coach in 2009 as an assistant with the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, where the head coach was Huska. Three seasons later, Lambert became the team’s head coach, and his biggest achievement was leading Kelowna to the 2015 WHL Championship but losing the final to Oshawa Generals.
“I’m really excited to spend some time with Ryan and coach with him again. Really excited about the opportunity to work in a Canadian market.”

Then he was hired as an assistant coach in Buffalo Sabres and again became head coach, this time of AHL’s Rochester Americans but was dismissed in 2017. After that, he worked in WHL’s Spokane Chiefs and returned to the National Hockey League in 2019 again as an assistant in the Nashville Predators.
“Dan worked as Ryan Huska’s assistant in Kelowna during 2009-14. We think that it will be very positive to get up to speed quicker and accomplish great things,” shared Calgary GM Craig Conroy.
