Coach Kevin O’Connel confirmed the news on Monday in what is a major blow for Minnesota as their offensive line has been severely plagued by injuries.
Akers sustained the injury during the Vikings win over Atlanta, where he had eight carries for 25 yards. He has appeared 6 times for Minnesota since his trade on September 20 and he has notched 138 yards on 38 attempts .
Akers has remained second-choice behind Alexander Mattison, but his ambition has provided the position with energy and aspiration.
It is not the first time he has ruptured his Achilles as the same issue occurred in 2021, when he made a miraculous comeback in less than six months to feature in the Super Bowl.
