Canada started their participation in the Gold Cup with a disappointing draw. John Herdman’s team conceded an equalizer in the stoppage time against Guadeloupe and the match from Group D of the tournament ended in a draw 2-2.
In the only match of the tournament played in Toronto, Guadeloupe took the lead in the 23rd minute with a goal from Thierry Ambrose. The hosts made a complete comeback in the second half after a goal from Lucas Cavallini and an own goal from Medi Lina.

Another own goal drew the game after Russell-Rowe headed the ball into his own net in the 93rd minute. Canada is playing without the big stars Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, relying on a young squad.
“We are disappointed with the result. You certainly want the three points in your first game and at home in front of those fans who supported us. I think the supporters saw some of our future. This tournament provides that opportunity”, commented coach John Herdman.
