Thatcher Demko has 31 saves for Vancouver

On Monday night, Thatcher Demko showcased his goaltending prowess by stopping 31 shots, earning his fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory for the Vancouver Canucks over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Contributing to Vancouver’s success, Pius Suter and Quinn Hughes found the back of the net, while Andrei Kuzmenko provided two assists. This win marked the Canucks’ third consecutive victory. Demko, in outstanding form, secured his seventh straight win and recorded his ninth victory in the last 10 starts, ultimately achieving his eighth career shutout.

Quinn Hughes commended Demko’s stellar performance, emphasizing that the goaltender is finally receiving the recognition he deserves. On the opposing side, Petr Mrazek made 27 saves for the Chicago Blackhawks, who were coming off a 4-3 overtime win against the New York Islanders on Friday night. It’s worth noting that the Blackhawks have managed to win consecutive games just once in the current season.

At the same time late in the first period, Charlie Coyle netted the decisive goal, and the Boston Bruins’ formidable defense propelled them to a 4-1 triumph over the Winnipeg Jets, showcasing a clash between two premier NHL teams.

Contributing to the Bruins’ fifth consecutive victory, Jake DeBrusk and Jakub Lauko also found the back of the net. Boston continued its impressive form, boasting a record of 10-1-3 in the last 14 games. Goaltender Jeremy Swayman played a pivotal role with 20 saves, securing the Bruins’ position atop the Eastern Conference with 67 points.

DeBrusk added a short-handed goal with just 5:25 left in the game, and Brad Marchand sealed the victory with an empty-netter. The Winnipeg Jets, who had not conceded more than two goals in 14 consecutive games and three or fewer in 34 straight games (one short of the modern NHL record set by the 2015 Minnesota Wild), found themselves challenged by Boston’s offensive prowess.

Vladislav Namestnikov managed to score for the Jets, who lead the Central Division with 64 points. Connor Hellebuyck made 17 saves in the effort, but it was not enough to overcome the Bruins’ solid performance.
