Elias Pettersson and Pius Suter both found the net twice as the Vancouver Canucks secured a 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, thanks to a swift start.
Contributing to Vancouver’s offensive display were goals from J.T. Miller and Ian Cole, propelling them to a commanding 5-0 lead after the first period. Thatcher Demko stood strong in goal, turning away 35 shots.
Ottawa’s response featured two goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and a goal and assist from Claude Giroux. The defeat followed the Senators’ recent front office announcement on Sunday, with Steve Staios named the team’s general manager, shedding the interim tag. Dave Poulin, a former player for Philadelphia and Boston, assumed the role of senior vice president of hockey operations for Ottawa.
Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg made nine saves on 13 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo in the second period. Korpisalo went on to stop 11 of the 13 shots he faced.
