Carmelo Anthony has announced on Monday that he is retiring from the NBA after a 19-year stint at the top flight basketball.
Anthony has bagged 28, 289 points in his career, which ranks him No.9 in NBA history among many elusive names such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan etc.
“Now the time has come for me to say good-bye … to the game that gave me purpose and pride,” Anthony said in a video message.
Anthony was selected among the top 75 NBA players, along with 10-time All-star, a past scoring champion and a six-time All-NBA selection.
He has enjoyed stints with Denver, Portland, Oklahoma City, Houston and finally Lakers, where he played for one year. Due to injuries he remained unsigned and now has decided to call it a day.
“People ask what I believe my legacy is,” the emotional Anthony said.
“It’s not my feats on the court that come to mind, all the awards or praise. Because my story has always been more than basketball. My legacy, my son … I will forever continue through you. The time has come for you to carry this torch.”
