Casemiro is set to take on the captain’s armband in Brazil’s friendly game against Marocco, reports state.
The Manchester United player has led his national team 11 times previously, most recently in a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador in January 2022.
Current captain Thiago Silva is unavailable due to a knee ligament injury and the 38-year old has previously stated that the 2022 World Cup would be his last.
With Silva out of the picture, it has left Casemiro as the oldest outfield player in the Brazil’s squad with interim manager decision sparkling a debate whether United manager Erik Ten Hag would follow up in his footstep and give the Brazilian the captaincy.
After Harry Maguire’s role at the club had been heavily reduced due to poor form, Bruno Fernandes is the player currently leading the Red Devils.
But the Portuguese star is yet to prove himself as a true leader and with his unprofessional behaviour during the 7-0 humiliation to Liverpool, Ten Hag may reconsider swapping his first-team captain.
