Los Angeles releases the guard in a cost-cutting move.

The LA Chargers plan to cut guard Mekhi Becton in a move that will save the team almost 10 million dollars vs. the salary cap.

Mekhi struggled in the past campaign after joining Los Angeles on a 2-year, 20 million dollar contract a year ago. The 6-year veteran battled problems throughout the campaign and voiced his frustration with the organization last season.

Los Angeles GM Joe Hortiz had to decide quickly on the guard, who was due two and a half million dollars roster bonus later this month and another million dollar bonus in the middle of the month.

The team already entered the offseason with a projected 86 million dollars in salary cap space and is expected to actively rebuild the offense for the upcoming campaign, where they also will have to replace retired center Bradley Bozeman.

Mekhi, who is 26 years old, ranked as the 49th-worst guard in pass block win rate and the 3rd-worst lineman in run block win rate. Becton appeared in just 72% of snaps last year and played all of the snaps in only 6 matches.
