Chelsea plans to sign Schmeichel as a free agent

Chelsea are interested in Denmark international Kasper Schmeichel, who is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Nice on the final day of the transfer window.

The French club have parted ways with the experienced keeper, who spent just one season at the club he joined after his Leicester contract expired at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Chelsea want to sign the 36-year-old goalkeeper as a second option to Mauricio Pochettino, who currently has Robert Sanchez and George Petrovic in goal.

Schmeichel has solid Premier League experience with 284 appearances in England’s top flight, keeping 83 clean sheets. The Danish international is also the champion of England with Leicester from the 2015/16 season.
