Chelsea have been dealt a significant setback after manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that star midfielder Cole Palmer will be sidelined for around six weeks due to a groin injury.
Palmer has not featured for the Blues since limping off during their defeat to Manchester United last month. The England international will now miss several key fixtures, including the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on November 1 and the high-profile home clash with Barcelona on the 25th.
Maresca had initially played down the seriousness of the issue but admitted his earlier optimism was misplaced. “Unfortunately, I was wrong — he will probably be out for another six weeks,” the Italian said.

Despite the extended layoff, the Chelsea boss reassured fans that surgery will not be required and that the club is taking every precaution to ensure a full recovery. “We’re trying to protect Cole as much as possible and the most important thing is that when he comes back, he’s fully recovered,” Maresca explained. “He’ll probably need six weeks, hopefully six weeks will be enough. It’s a problem we have to look at step by step, week by week. But he’ll be fine for sure.”
