Patrick Mahomes broke the news on Twitter

Nick Allegretti, Kansas City Chiefs guard, didn’t skip a single offensive play in the Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers, even after suffering an elbow ligament tear in the second quarter, as reported by NFL Network on Tuesday.

A full tear of the ulnar collateral ligament was confirmed by an MRI, the report added. Allegretti, stepping in for the All-Pro Joe Thuney (pectoral injury), played through all 79 snaps and was credited with allowing one sack by Pro Football Focus. “Beast man! We told him we needed him out there and he didn’t miss a snap!” exclaimed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a post on X, previously Twitter.

Mahomes, who took home the Super Bowl MVP title, led Kansas City to a 25-22 overtime victory against San Francisco. Thuney was sidelined due to a pectoral injury sustained during the Chiefs’ AFC divisional playoff victory against the Buffalo Bills, missing both the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LVIII. At 27, Allegretti, who had started in just one regular-season game before this, has now secured three championship titles with Kansas City since being drafted in the seventh round from Illinois in 2019.
