Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Jonah Williams has requested a trade through his agent, NFL Network Insider reported on Friday.
It is believed the 25-year old doesn’t feel happy with the team’s decision to sign Orlando Brown in a deal that included the largest signing bonus ($31m) ever given to a offensive lineman. With the inclusion of Brown, the Bengals have given themselves extra sense of security in anticipation of giving extension for Joe Burrow.
All this has reportedly enraged Williams, who is currently at the final year of his rookie contract, which would guarantee him a base salary of $12,6m. Cincinnati have the option to sell him, but are likely not to do so, as they strive for squad depth, something they desperately lacked during the past two years.
If he doesn’t find himself a new club, Williams might be forced to play to the right side position, where he would replace Collins, who is currently coming off a serious knee-injury that might delay his start to the 2023 campaign.
