Coco Gauff emerged victorious in a hardly-fought match against Laura Siegemund in the first round at the US Open on Monday night.
The 19-year-old had to work hard as she fell behind in the first set, but fought back to turn the game around.

The match was marred by controversy as Siegemund was blamed by Gauff for slow play and time wasting. The German eventually received a warning from the umpire in the third set, but that did little to satisfy Gauff.
“I was really patient the whole match. She was going over the time since the first set. I never said anything. I would look at the umpire, and she didn’t do anything,”she said.
“Then obviously the crowd started to notice that she was taking long, so you would hear people in the crowd yelling, ‘Time!’”

Siegemund, however, had a different view on the matter as she left the court in tears.
“I am very, very disappointed (by) the way the people treated me today,” she said.
“This is something that I have to say hurts really bad. There is no doubt that I’m slow. … I should be quicker. But at the same time, it’s how I play.”
